Ewing Township Ewing Township is located in Mercer County, New Jersey. The township borders the Philadelphia Metropolitan area, and is located in the central western section of New Jersey. Ewing Township was once known as Hopewell Township in what was a very large Burlington County upon its founding in the 17th century. One of the oldest settlements in the area, William Green’s farmhouse established in 1717, still stands. Ewing was officially established by an act of the New Jersey state legislature in 1834 posthumously honoring Charles Ewing for his work as Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Throughout the latter part of the 20th century Ewing was the home to the Naval Air Warfare Center Trenton, which was used as a jet engine test facility for the US Navy during that time.
