Washington Township is located in Gloucester County and is one of the largest townships in Gloucester County. Washington township was incorporated into the state of New Jersey on February 17th, 1836, from portions of Deptford Township. The township was named after George Washington and is one of the many areas statewide named after the first president. The township is divided into two parts, what is known as the “town center” and the area around Route 42 which connects Washington Township to Philadelphia.
